Welcome to Denver, Welcome Home

Image

Denver is home to more than 682,000 of your closest friends and has plenty of activities to keep your entire family on the go from daylight to dusk. But, as with any other city, there are things you should know about your new hometown that will help you settle in and learn to live like a local in no time. Gone for Good presents a few things you need to know.

Cost of living and job market

Denver is regarded as the second-best place to live in the US. And although the cost of living is slightly higher than the national average, it’s still considered affordable, especially when compared to other big cities. The job market is in a continual upward swing, so if you’re moving to the area, and especially if you work in defense or aerospace, you’ll have plenty of options. For example, Lockheed Martin recently opened up a secondary headquarters near Denver and almost always has jobs available.

Schools

From elementary school through college, educational opportunities abound throughout the Denver area. If you are looking for the best school system for your growing family, keep in mind that Colorado is home to 15 of the best high schools in America – two of which are in the top 100. That’s pretty impressive considering that there are 183 schools in Denver alone. If you are not sure which school you are zoned for, you can put your address into Zillow to find out.

Location

If you made your decision to move to Denver without visiting, you should know that the city is not actually considered in the mountains. Instead, it is a short drive to the Rockies, and you’ll have a great landscape no matter which neighborhood you choose to settle down in.

Helpful hints and resources

If you’re bringing your business with you to Denver, or you want to start a business after you get settled, Colorado is a great state to do so! Just make sure you understand all of the guidelines involved in registering your Colorado LLC.

The Colorado SBDC offers excellent resources for small business owners.

There are many primary care doctors and pediatricians in Denver. Before you make a decision, check out their reviews on Vitals.com.

There are several grocery stores to choose from including King Soopers, Costco, and Sprouts. If you prefer to have your food delivered, InstaCart offers 1-hour service to much of the area.

Need to get around? Denver’s public transit system has you covered. Fairs start at $3.00. Visit RTD-Denver.com for an up-to-date route map.

The Tourist Information Center is a valuable resource for new residents looking for things to do. Call them toll-free at 800.233.6837 or locally at 303.892.1505 for more on the sites and sounds of the city.

Deer Creek Animal Hospital, Urban Vet Care, and Indian Tree Animal Hospital are rated the best veterinarians in the area.

There are dozens of fitness centers between the airport and Lakewood. 24-Hour Fitness and Anytime Fitness are two that are open 24/7.

We love yoga almost as much as we do hiking and biking. Find a yoga studio by searching Fitt.co Denver.

Finally, remember that if you need help, we have some of the friendliest people around so don’t hesitate to ask your new neighbors for advice.

With so much to see and do in and around this wonderful city, it can be overwhelming. Take it a step at a time and get familiar with your neighborhood and branch out from there. Soon enough, you’ll feel and sound like a local.
